Ten Things You Will Find at First Mennonite Church...
Worship.
We value our worship time and meet each Sunday morning to praise, sing, pray, hear God's Word and share joys and prayer concerns.
Fellowship
You will find ample opportunities for connecting with people. We enjoy fellowship, food, fun and lively discussion. Small groups meet throughout the year.
Involvement
We encourage each other to develop our gifts and place a high value on participation in church life, regardless of age or gender. Children and youth are a valued part of our church family and like being involved.
Sunday School for everyone
You will find lively Sunday School participation by adults as well as children and youth. We believe that learning and sharing together help to nurture faith at all stages of life.
Peacemaking.
We hold deep convictions about peace and justice, and witness to Christ's love through education and action. Many of us are involved with organizations that seek reconciliation within our local community as well as the larger world.
Prayer
You will find people dedicated to prayer. We believe that prayer plays a significant role in our spiritual growth, relationship with God and support of others.
Service
We follow Jesus with joy, heeding his call to feed the hungry, care for the sick, welcome the stranger and respond to those in need. We work with other churches and agencies to offer healing and hope in Christ's name. Matthew 25
Global Outreach
You will hear concern for Latin America, the Middle East and many other places in the world. We have a sister church in Colombia, the Lutheran congregation of El Divino Redentor. We also maintain active ties with the Muslim community here in Champaign-Urbana.
Diversity
You will find a welcoming and diverse group of people coming together as a Christian community. Most of our church family are from a non-Mennonite background and bring a variety of perspectives on living out our faith. We work to respect the different views within our church.
A Place to Ask Questions
We are on this faith journey together and we encourage one another to ask questions along the way. Doubts and questions do not need to be set aside before entering our church doors.
